Bree Gregory is an Adelaide soul and R&B singer-songwriter bringing a little retro soul magic into the modern day. After years of performing around Adelaide, Bree has spent the last few years taking part in shows across Australia and New Zealand, but songwriting is a much newer chapter in her story.
It all started with a song. The first time Bree heard Michael Kiwanuka’s Cold Little Heart, something clicked. She grabbed her keyboard, and suddenly the music started pouring out of her “like a tap”. What began as a moment of inspiration quickly turned into a new creative obsession.
After spending the past year writing, Bree is now excited to share the result: a four-song debut EP filled with retro soul, sweet harmonies and heavy horns. Recorded in Melbourne with a talented bunch of musicians who perform with some of Australia’s well-known bands, and a producer who knows his way around a great soul record, the EP is a collection of songs that draw on Bree’s love of classic soul while giving it a fresh, modern edge.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Olivia Dean, Aretha Franklin ,Al Green, and Jalen Ngonda, Bree’s music is rooted in the soul sounds she loves while still sounding distinctly her own.
Bree’s previous single Waiting reached #4 on the AMRAP charts and earned her a finalist position in the R&B/Funk/Soul category at the SA Music Awards. Her most recent single Feel the Same Thing was celebrated with a sold-out launch at Adelaide’s Queen’s Theatre.
After a few years away from releasing her own original music, Bree is back writing, recording and finally sharing the songs that have been building up inside her!
